Humans have been trying to harvest honey for thousands of years. Skeps have been used as a rudimentary hive for at least 2,000 years. Essentially they are baskets made from wicker or straw placed open-end down. So when I made a crochet bee for my Spring Beasties Headband my daughter suggested I make a beehive hat so that bees had somewhere to live. I am really pleased with the end SBWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06104456132611203309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5555853083889372394.post-23183522313615859272014-03-04T17:53:00.000+00:002014-03-04T17:53:01.233+00:00Spring Beasties HeadbandSpring is so, so, nearly here. The first package arrived last week. I have just balled the first skein - thought it was black but on closer inspection it has a wonderful green undertone - a little like peacock feathers. Pumpkin the kitten is taking an unhealthy interest in it though.

To be fair I was probably high on cold and flu medication for most of the Christmas period so my knitting was rather frenzied. I've made a pair of fingerless gloves in left over wool from Jojo's ballet leg warmers and I'm one glove in to a pair of a fully fingered gloves.I fear this could become a bit of an addiction - even though I currently don't wear gloves all that often. Yesterday we adopted two nearly 10 week old kittens from the RSPCA. With a little bit of encouragement Jojo agreed to call them Danny and Zucco (rather than Pinky and Dinky - her preferred choice). Jojo was disappointed that we can't rename them everyday (the rspca had called them Hancock and Ryder) but she decided SBWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06104456132611203309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5555853083889372394.post-55816076564972105832008-08-04T19:59:00.004+01:002008-12-13T04:32:48.235+00:00Bye Bye BusterOur crazy but muched loved Buster died suddenly on Sunday morning (we think of a massive heart attack bought on by an infection of some kind) - he was only 3 1/2 and we'd had him for just 16 months.
